About
A composer in constant flux between Finland and Sweden, Pietari Kaasinen (b. 1992) is excited about sensitivity, sincerity of expression in music, and things happening at intersections between the popular and the marginal. Collaborations with creatives from different backgrounds form an essential part of Pietari's identity – Pietari frequently works with dancers, visual artists, and writers to create works in both traditional and less common formats. He often assumes a role beyond that of composing, providing not only music for but also artistic input within interdisciplinary projects.
Pietari's concert music has been heard at festivals such as the Baltic Sea Festival in Stockholm, Musica nova Helsinki, and Ung Nordisk Musik, and performed by Tampere
Philharmonic Orchestra, Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Norrbotten NEO,
KammarensembleN, Musica Vitae, and the Swedish Wind Ensemble, among others. He holds both Master's and Bachelor's in composition from the Royal College of Music
in Stockholm and a Bachelor's in music from Tampere University of
Applied Sciences, where he studied composition with D.Mus. Hannu
Pohjannoro and cello with Markus Hohti. Pietari also holds a Bachelor
of Political Science from Uppsala University.
Pietari's work is/has been supported in the past by the Sibelius Fund, the Madetoja Foundation, the Finnish Cultural Foundation, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, and the Foundation for Music Promotion in Finland. Pietari is a member of both Finnish Composers and the Swedish Society of Composers.
